HAYADH came out on top in a thrilling finish to the £20,000 feature race at Musselburgh on Monday.
Sent off a well-backed 11/4 favourite for the Racegoers Club 50th Anniversary Handicap, the David Allan-ridden grey nailed last year’s winner Muntadab right on the line to prevail by a short-head.
Winning trainer Rebecca Bastiman said: “I thought he was beaten a good neck! David said he got into a lot of trouble and would have kicked himself if he hadn’t won.
“When he won at Wolverhampton in the winter after two and a half years off we knew had a good horse on our hands. We had him at his best again today and there is more to come. He loves soft ground and there is possibly a race at Newmarket for him.”
Paul Midgley saddled a 1-2-3 in the Breeders Backing Racing EBF Flying Scotsman Conditions Stakes as 10/1 shot Captain Colby lead home stable mates, evens favourite, Tarboosh and Line Of Reason.
The winning trainer said: “I’ve a few 1-2’s before but I’m not sure if I’ve had the first three before.”
The final race of the 2018 Scottish Flat season, the amateur riders’ handicap, went to Pavers Pride for the Noel Wilson/Becky Smith combination.
