Ayr – Report 10th October 2024

Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

Darbucks, who lost the corresponding race in the stewards room twelve months ago, enjoyed a change of fortune when landing the Tennents Handicap at Ayr in the hands of Connor Beasley.

Trained in Lancashire by ex-jump jockey Chris Kellett, he held off the favourite Alpine Sierra by a neck on the final Flat action of the year at the Craigie venuey.

“He’s had valid reasons for some recent poor runs as he had a wide draw at Wolverhampton and the ground was too heavy at Hamilton,” Kellett reported. “He’s fine at seven furlongs or a mile and that will probably be him for the season now.”

Kaiya Fraser recorded a 307-1 treble on his first visit to the track as he booted home Inappropriate, Graecia and Shine On Brendan.

The apprentice is based in Newmarket with Harry Eustace, who saddled the former in the opener while Graecia, also trained in Newmarket by John Butler, landed the Aperol Handicap by a neck from Cancan In The Rain with Jim Goldie’s Shine On Brendan completing the three-timer in the mile handicap.

And Ayr’s concluding race of the year appropriately went to Annandale, representing Jim Goldie, Paul Mulrennan and James Callow, who were the leading trainer, jockey and owner at he track for 2024.
