Ayr – Report 15th July 2024

Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

Alfa Kellenic and Mythical Phoenix produced a thriller for the Fergie & Myra Happel Ayr Gold Cup Trial with the former, ridden by Tom Eaves, just prevailing by a short-head.

Trainer Craig Lidster, saddling his first winner at Ayr, said: “It’s all systems go for the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood now. She’s obviously in terrific form and it takes quite something to win four race in-a-row.

“Hopefully there is a bit more improvement to come and maybe she will get to Listed level one day. And it is all for a good cause as she’s owned by a charity umbrella called Goodracingco.”

King’s Call looks a nice type of two-year-old and he made all the running for a pleasing debut success in the Hospitality At Scottish Sun Ladies Night Novice Stakes.

Trained by Kevin Ryan and initiating a double for Tom Eaves, the 3/1 chance saw off promising fellow newcomer We Dare To Dream by a length.

“Kevin has always liked him and he’s been doing all the right things at home,” Eaves said. “He knew his job right from the start and took everything in his stride.”
