Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

JAMIE HAMILTON was all smiles after riding a 12-1 double on Mark Walford-trained pair Ruby Island and Choosethenews at Ayr on Thursday.

The former impressed in the Coral First For Racing ‘National Hunt’ Maiden Hurdle while, an hour later, Choosethenews made all in the Coral Racing Club Novices’ Hurdle.

Hamilton, who is originally from the Hawick area, said: “They both won really well and I hadn’t ridden Ruby Island before but she was great on her debut over hurdles on ground that wasn’t ideal. Choosethenews had a good look at the paddock first time round but he is inexperienced and overall I was delighted with him.”

The card opened with a second successive win for James Ewart-trained Beat Box in the Coral Racing Club Join For Free Conditional Jockeys’. Handicap Hurdle.

And there was another Scottish success as Bois Guillbert landed the Coral Get Closer To The Action Junior ‘National Hunt’ Hurdle for Lucinda Russell and Stephen Mulqueen.

Russell, who saddles stable star Ahoy Senor in the King George VI Chase on Boxing Day, said: “This is a lovely young horse with a really bright future – he is the very type that this series of races were designed for.”
