Madame Ambassador took the £47,000 Fitzdares British EBF Rothesay Stakes at Ayr on Wednesday in the hands of Joe Fanning.
Charlie Johnson’s mare finished fifth in the corresponding race last year but, sent off at 13/2, she made no mistake this time as she beat Red Danielle by three-quarters of a length.
“She stays well so I knew she would keep on strong as she’s a grand mare,” Fanning said. “I haven’t had a lot to do with her but it’s great for her to win a Listed race.
“She just gallops and is a big mare that has improved over the last two seasons. I just wanted a nice pace on as I knew she stays every yard.”
