Ayr – Report 6th January 2025

Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

Nick Alexander and Bruce Lynn teamed up for a double, at odds of just over 7/1, with Boolamore Classic and Travail D’Orfevre on Ayr’s second card of the year.

Boolamore Classic was backed from 5/1 into 5/2 favourite before landing he opening Book Your Celebration @westernhousehotel.co.uk Conditional Jockeys’ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle before Travail D’Orfevre took the Book Coral Scottish Grand National Handicap Chase.

“It certainly wasn’t my money in the gamble on Boolamore Classic as we all thought last night his price was a bit too skinny!” Alexander said. “The first-time visor has helped him today so it’s nice to see the penny has finally dropped.”

Lucinda Russell also saddled a double, in her case at odds of 43/1, with Golden Point and Out Of The Woods.

Derek Fox, who rode the first leg in the mares’ novices’ hurdle, said: “She wasn’t clever at the second last so she would have been an unlucky loser. I wasn’t sure if we had got there to be honest so I was glad when her number was called as the winner.”
