Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

Connor Beasley was the jockey to follow at Ayr where he rode a 41/1 treble aboard Thelma’s Angel, Pol Roger and Vellner.

The middle leg, trained by Michael Dods, was successful in the Enjoy Whyte & Mackay Handicap and Beasley said: “He had pretty decent form as a two-year-old and things didn’t happen for him lately year.

“He’s done it nicely today and that was more like it. The better ground helped and he was certainly rated a bit higher couple of seasons ago.”

Locally-based Mike Smith won with both his runners as Ski Angel and Zebra Star supplied him with a 77/1 double in consecutive races.

“To be honest I thought beforehand that Zebra Star was our best chance so I’m delighted they have both won,” the Galston trainer said afterwards.
