Ayr – Report 3rd June 2024

Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

Little Empire, a turf debutant, was a first winner at Ayr for both trainer Anthony McCann and jockey Callum Shepherd Sent off 11-4 second favourite, the Irish raider fairly romped home by nearly three-lengths in the Racing TV Profits Returned To Racing Handicap.

“He’s been running well, and winning, on the all-weather but we came here for nice prize and it’s paid off,” McCann said. “It’s a great place and not far to go once we’ve come across in the boat. All being well if he’s ok in the morning he’ll run again at Wolverhampton tomorrow night (Tuesday).”

Crystal Guard sprung a minor upset when landing the Join Racing TV Now Handicap at 12-1 for Iain Jardine and Mohammed Tabti.

The winning jockey said: “I kept pushing and he kept giving me more. We got a little bit blown about by the wind but he was very game.”

The opening two-year-old maiden stakes saw a most encouraging debut strike for Electrolyte for Archie Watson and James Watson.
