JIM GOLDIE took Ayr by storm on Monday when the Renfrewshire trainer registered a stunning 222-1 treble with Grand Canal, Alpine Sierra and Global Humor.

Grand Canal, ridden by Paul Mulrennan, took the 1m 7f handicap in style, Alpine Sierra, formerly with Keith Dalgleish, was the middle leg in the mile handicap with Global Humor coming from last to first in the final event.

“We obviously fancied a few as we had 14 runners on the card,” said Goldie. “It was good to see Grand Canal win as Paul said to try the first-time blinkers after he was last of five at Carlisle on Thursday night. He also said to drop him in and he was spot on.”

Iain Jardine was in double form with a 17-1 brace courtesy of Havana Party and Stay Smart.

“Before this, both his wins came at Hamilton but he did that very well and he might run again at Hamilton on Thursday,” the Dumfriesshire trainer said of Havana Party. “He missed the break last time but he was away much sharper here and it made all the difference.”
