GLASSES UP, trained by Mike Smith and ridden by Ben Curtis, gained his seventh course success – and eighth of his career – when making all in the Fergie Happel Memorial Handicap at Ayr on Monday.
“He broke much better this time and I said as they turned for home that this was just like a piece of work on the gallops for him,” the winning Galston handler said. “He loves it here and he has won off much higher marks in the past so it’s great to have the horses in such good order ahead of our stable open day on Sunday.”
Other Scottish success came in the shape of Retirement Beckons (Linda Perratt), JKR Cobbler (Iain Jardine) and Ayr Poet (Jim Goldie).
JKR Cobbler was completing a course and distance hat-trick under Andrew Mullen in the Scottish Sun Ladies Night On Saturday Handicap.
“He’s a big horse and Iain has done a terrific job with him,” Mullen said. “The going key is to him and I wouldn’t want to run him on anything quicker than good ground.”
