Iain Jardine struck with Half Shot, ridden by Brian Hughes, in the RBC Brewin Dolphin Handicap Chase as Kelso got its autumn campaign underway.

The three-time champion brought the 8/1 chance to the front close home to score by half a length on an elongated run-in due to fences being omitted because of the low sun.

Hawick-born Jamie Hamilton was seen to good effect aboard Ashington in the £25,000 feature race, Paul Ferguson’s Jumpers To Follow Handicap Hurdle over 2m 5f.

Trained in Yorkshire by Mark Walford and sent off at 6/1, hit the front near the line to oblige by half a length.

Intense Approach, sent off at 1/3, was a very well-backed odds-on winner of the opening Borders Carers Centre Novices’ Hurdle for Irish trainer John McConnell and jockey Alex Harvey.
