Musselburgh – Report 28th August 2024

Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

Trojan Sun, trained by Jim Goldie and ridden by Aimie Waugh, landed the £20,000 Portobello Cup at Musselburgh.

Sent off at 7-1, he led turning for home before beating last year’s third Yorkindness by a head with Show No Fear just a neck back in third place.

“We left the cheekpieces off and just tried to be positive with him,” said Waugh after riding her 49th winner. “He stayed on really well and this was just the seventh race of his career so he should have plenty of improvement in him.”

Goldie completed a double in the last when Eternal Sunshine came from an unpromising position to win the Join Racing TV Now Handicap under Paul Mulrennan.

The home-bred three-time scorer, who had never even been placed at the minimum trip before, flew home to poke her head in front right on the line.

Brian Ellison and Ben Robinson completed a quick-fire double when Solar Biricz and Miners Gamble took consecutive races at combined odds of 37-1.
