Musselburgh – Report 2nd October 2024

Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

Royal Duke was a well-backed 11/2 winner of the Racing TV Profits Returned To Racing Handicap.

Trained by Mike Smith and ridden by Rhys Elliott, the bottom-weight stormed home ahead of the favourite Kyber Crystal, who didn’t have the clearest of passages.

“Through riding him on the gallops and on the track I’ve got to know him quite well and he first showed me what he was capable of when sixth at a massive price here in August,” the winning jockey said. “He was then a good second here and was unlucky not to finish closer than third at Hamilton last time.

“He certainly has ability and he’s won a shade nicely. Unfortunately Mike wasn’t here as he and some of the staff was at the funeral of one of his owners, which is very sad.”

Oisin Orr was the jockey to follow as completed a treble aboard Stormy Impact, The Gay Blade and True Nation.

And Iain Jardine’s good recent run continued when he saddled a double courtesy of The Gay Blade and Bint Al Karama.
