Musselburgh – Report 4th February 2024

Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

Corrigeen Rock was ridden to victory in the £80,000 Scottish Champion Chase at Musselburgh by Derek Fox.

Taking up the running with over a circuit to race, Lucinda Russell’s 11-2 chance saw off Thunder Rock by two-lengths.

“Both Derek and this horse are so brave and I’ve just told Derek that on the way back in,” Russell said. “Derek for throwing him at a fence and Corrigeen Rock himself as he’s not very big.

“He is a horse that loves going right handed so we are looking at always going that way round with him. It’s been a terrific two days after winning the Edinburgh National on Saturday with Inis Oirr.”

Paul Nichols was on hand to saddle a four-timer with Liari, Beau Balko, Panjari and Wicked Thoughts, who benefitted from a fatal fall close home by Getagin in the concluding bumper.

And Nick Alexander was on the mark when Duyfken made all under Danny McMenamin in the tote.co.uk Your First Place For Racing Handicap Hurdle.
