Sunday Soldier extended her winning sequence to five when bagging the Go North Lady Buttons Mares’ Hurdle Series Final at Musselburgh.

Partnered by regular jockey Richie McLernon, the 5/1 chance saw off Similar Story by half a length.

David Killahena who trains the winner in partnership with Graeme McPherson, said: “She shows us very little at home but she’s done nothing but improve on the track. The different tactics to drop her in here were due to the longer trip which we always felt she required and she saw it out well.”

Golden Maverick got going late on to land the Go North Grey Bomber Juvenile Hurdle Series Final for Jamie Snowden and Gavin Sheehan.

“He’s a class horse from the Flat and I just kept him at it and he kept picking up for me,” said the winning jockey. “A lot of good horses can get beaten around here and, in the end, he’s done it with his ears pricked.”
