Ayr – Preview 10th October 2024

Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

THE one-two from last year’s Ayr feature race are set for a rematch as the curtain comes down on the Flat season at Scotland’s premier venue.

Twelve months ago Jim Goldie’s Be Proud made all to beat stablemate Abduction by a length and a quarter and the pair are among the declarations for the Tennents Lager Handicap over six-furlongs.

Abduction is the mount of Paul Mulrennan, who will be crowned leading rider at Ayr for 2024, while Goldie has bagged the trainer’s award for the third year running.

Also in the line-up is Iain Jardine-trained Hour By Hour, who is on a hat-trick following back-to-back wins at Hamilton Park last month.

The card opens with Jardine’s Can’t Stop Now bidding to make it three wins from his last four starts under Brandon Wilkie in the Absolut Vodka Apprentice Handicap.

Newmarket-based Kaiya Fraser, who has ridden five winners at Hamilton Park this term, has his first ride at the track as he partners recent Beverley scorer Inappropriate for his employer Harry Eustace.

And Ewan Whillans-trained Ebony Maw shoulders a 4lb penalty for a recent course success as he attempts to follow-up last year’s three-quarters of a length victory in the Patron Tequila Handicap.
