THE 2022 Flat season at Ayr Racecourse comes under starter’s orders today with a seven race card due under way at 1.45pm with the Join Racing TV Now Restricted Maiden Stakes over five furlongs.
The feature race is the Bet At racingtv.com Handicap over six furlongs at 3.25pm and Galston trainer Mike Smith runs the seven year-old Black Friday here. He won twice last season – at Ayr in July over this trip and at Pontefract in October over five furlongs. The gelding should be fully fit after a recent racecourse gallop and can go close with Paddy Mathersriding.
Jim Goldie’s Call Me Ginger, winner of the Ayr Bronze Cup last September, also lines up in what is a competitive looking six runner contest. He ran well in a valuable Class 2 handicap at Musselburgh recently and Ben Robinson is booked to ride.
The Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap over 1m 2f at 2.50pm is another tight looking affair and Keith Dalgleishruns Alpine Sierra formerly trained in Ireland by Dermot Weld. This is his third run for his new yard and stable jockey Callum Rodriguez takes the mount.
The biggest field of the afternoon is in the Watch On Racing TV Handicap over six furlongs at 2.15pm and the top weight is Kats Bob for trainer Iain Jardine and jockey Andrew Mullen. This horse won over slightly longer at the track last year and will be fancied to run a big race.
