Ayr – Preview 2nd January 2025

Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

Gold Cup Bailly, trained in Ireland by Stuart Crawford and ridden by J J Slevin, bids to land the feature race at Ayr for the second time in three years.

He faces four rivals in the £15,000 Karaoke At The Gold Inn Prestwick Handicap Chase having made most of the running in this same contest in 2023 when partnered by recently retired Daryl Jacob.

His main danger could be Lucinda Russell’s Whistle Stop Tour, who has been raised 6lbs for a convincing success at Kelso early last month.

Having secured the opener twelve months ago with Esprit Du Potier, Russell is double-handed in the Ayr Racecourse Racing Club Only £30 Maiden Hurdle.

The dual Grand National-winning handler is represented by Jeune Prince and St Olan’s Well partnered by Derek Fox and Patrick Wadge respectively.
