Ewan Whillans is hoping for a big run from Desert Quest in the long-distance class 5 event at Musselburgh on Thursday night.
The Hawick raider faces just three rivals in the James Jones Handicap, which is staged over two-miles at the East Lothian venue.
“He’s run a couple of cracking races the last twice,” Whillans said. “He was second at Musselburgh over a mile and a half and then more recently just got caught at Ayr on a photo-finish.”
Red Force One, just a head behind Desert Quest ten days ago, is a course and distance winner who is one of the chief rivals again.
The evening begins with the Join Racing TV Now Confined Maiden Stakes, a mile event for horses that have not raced more than three times.
There are some tall reputations on the line as National Interest, trained in Newmarket by William Haggas, cost E800,000 as a yearling while Karl Burke’s First Alliance was a 500,000gns purchase at the same age.
