Musselburgh – Preview 3rd May 2024

Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

In-form Ewan Whillans is hoping to keep his good run going with Desert Quest in the £15,000 weatherbysshop.co.uk Handicap at Musselburgh on Friday.

The bottom-weight is the only representative of the day for the Hawick trainer, who has hit the bullseye with three of his last six runners over jumps and on the Flat.

“He’s been kept busy on the all-weather already this year and was unlucky not to have won more than once,” said Whillans, on the mark with a double at Ayr on Monday. “He’s back on a winning mark and the trip is fine although we know he stays, and has won, over further.”

From the opposite end of the handicap, Carlos Felix cost €700,000 as a two-year-old and won on his debut for the Stella Barclay stable when springing a 25/1 upset at Newcastle last November.

Kelpie Grey will be fancied to follow up his recent course success over a mile as he drops back to seven-furlongs in the Donald Wynns 50th Birthday Handicap.

And Whogoesthere could go off a short price for the Weatherbys Global Stallions App Handicap over five-furlongs.

Trained by Declan Carroll, he was pipped by three-parts of a length in third after trying to make all the running at Wolverhampton early last month.
