Many congratulations go out to Hamilton Park Chief Executive, Vivien Currie, being awarded the MBE in the New Year Honours List.

Vivien was recognised for her services to racecourse management, as well as her business and charity endeavours.

It tops a fabulous year for Vivien and the Lanarkshire track where a magnificent new hotel was opened along with hosting of the prestigious RCA Showcase event in 2019.

Kelso hosts the final Scottish action of the year on Sunday when the borders venue stages a seven-race card.

The feature event is the £20,000 Children’s Immunology Trust Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase over 2m 6f and it looks as if Cuban Pete for in-form Venetia Williams will take all the beating.

We don’t have to wait long for 2020 to gets started with a real swing as Musselburgh is likely to be sold out for the Betway New Year’s Day fixture.

And there is also racing on two legs at the East Lothian venue as it is the £5,000 final of the New Year Sprint for professional athletes. It will be the 151st renewal and the 20th to be held at Musselburgh.

A busy week in Scotland sees Ayr open its doors for the first time in the New Year on Thursday 2nd while the show moves back to Musselburgh on the 3rd.

Ayr are set to hold 32 meetings in the next twelve months and Thursday should be fun with seven exciting races, a Ceilidh, a national dress competition and a live DJ set. Plus under-18s get in for free.

Happy New Year!
